Frequently Asked Questions

  • High Schools all have different grading systems: some have narratives, some have a proficiency-based system, some have weighted averages, some have a traditional 100 scale. The way that schools communicate what their grades mean is through the school profile that accompanies the transcript. In this we will clearly state what our grading system is and what it means.

  • Yes! One of the benefits of a proficiency-based system is the focus on student progress and not on the speed in which a student understands a concept.  We are implementing a universal reassessment policy. Students will be able to redo any summative assessment as long as they meet these criteria.

      • The student completes necessary formative assessments/tasks with a score of 2.5 or higher before the reassessment.

      • The student scored below a 2.5 on the summative.

      • The student must complete the request to reassess form: Request to Reassess Form. The form can be completed with the teacher. Teachers will have a digital version available and might edit the form to suit their needs.

      • The student has not yet taken a reassessment for this summative. Students are allowed one reassessment per summative assessment.

The grade the student receives on the reassessment will completely replace the previous grade.

Students must submit a request to reassess within 2 days of receiving the graded summative.  Upon being cleared for a reassessment, students have 2 weeks to submit their new summative.  (If students cannot make this deadline, they must provide convincing work that demonstrates they have made significant effort towards reassessment.)

If a student is absent on the day of the summative, they have two weeks to complete the summative.

  • In a proficiency-based system, it is important to separate out non-academic factors. We have moved to have two separate grades for each course.

    1. An Academic grade that is reflective of a students performance on academic standards and

    2. A Habits of Learning grade that will be based on our four Habits of Learning categories:

      • Task Completion

      • Task Timeliness

      • Preparedness

      • Interactions with Others
